Applications
Graded-Density Foam for Impact & Energy Absorption
Graded-density cores that dissipate impact energy at a specified crush stress.

Energy absorption
Why printed foam
Energy absorbers need a flat crush plateau at a specific stress. Because relative density is a toolpath parameter, we can tune that plateau and grade it through the thickness so the part stiffens progressively.
Every prototype ships with compression data so you can compare it against your current foam.
- Crush stress set by design
- Progressive stiffening through the thickness
- Metal and elastomer options
Materials
Recommended materials
Custom metal foam
Open-cell copper, bronze and stainless steel foam with the pore size, density and outer shape you specify. Printed, debound and sintered to a full metallurgical bond.
Specs and gradesPolymer foam
Elastomeric and rigid polymer foams where stiffness changes across the part: soft where it touches, stiff where it carries load.
